Therapeutic Visitation

Therapeutic Visitation is one way to provide a safe environment for families who are in crisis. Many families in the midst of separation/divorce, as well as families who have experienced estrangement between its members need a safe place and therapeutic guidance to begin the healing process. Therapeutic visits allow for supervised contact, as well as the communication skill building and support that insure the emotional safety of the children involved.

Although Therapeutic Visitation is not therapy, the visits are supervised by a licensed therapist. Soquel Associates provides a safe, monitored and neutral environment in which family members can visit. Therapeutic Visitation Specialists work with your child’s therapist to ensure the highest degree of safety. Your Specialist will know what issues are important in your family and will help to facilitate healing communication. Therapeutic visits are often suggested by a therapist or Parenting Coordinator or ordered by a Judge. This process allows visits to happen in a safe and healing way that is outside the often adversarial legal process. Therapeutic visits are private and confidential, unless specifically noted in writing. Therapeutic Supervisors do not testify in court, but can (at your request) communicate with court personnel, custody evaluators, attorneys or other therapists involved with your family when needed.

Therapeutic visits help parents by: providing parent education, helping parents to understand the unique needs of their child(ren), offering strategies for improving bonding and attachment and offering a neutral, non-judgmental environment that can facilitate the healing process.

Therapeutic visits help children by: providing safe access to a parent in a structured setting, helping children to open up about their feelings and concerns, protecting families from further damage or estrangement and healing the pain that has been caused by a lack of contact.
